Rainy day tournament for Road To Hope raises rainy day funds

Organizers hope events raise funds and awareness — and find more drivers — for clients in need

All-day rain couldn't dampen the spirits of 18 teams of golfers playing in the first Road To Hope Fundraiser at the Lac La Biche Golf Club last Thursday. Funds raised go towards future expenses for the regional organization that offers free-of-charge transportation to clients in the Athabasca and Lac La Biche region travelling to cancer treatment appointments.

The Lac La Biche fairways are a new location for the charity golfing event that has been a fixture at the Athabsca Golf and Country Club for the last 15 years.  The Athabasca course will host the annual event later in September. Organizers hope the two events will raise more awareness, funds and volunteer involvement for the Road To Hope organization.

Drivers needed

Thursday's event in Lac La Biche was held under dark clouds, but the mood remained bright as thousands of dollars were added to the organization's fundraising efforts. Along with funds, supporters of the Road to Hope organization are hoping the increased promotion will draw more volunteers.

Drivers from across the region, especially the Lac La Biche area, are desperately needed, say organizers.

Volunteer registration information and details about the clients and services can be found at the Road To Hope website.

Lakelandtoday.ca will have an update on the success of the tournament when fund total are made available.
