ST. PAUL - Two area RCMP officers were recently recognized for their efforts in taking impaired drivers off area roads.

Cst. Stephen Cunningham and Cst. Jeff Schneider were each presented with a small token of appreciation for their commitment to making local roads safe. Both St. Paul-based members received the 2021 Cpl. Cummings Watch Award - Silver.

The award is a collaborative effort between Alberta RCMP, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada and Alberta Transportation, to support police efforts in the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers on Alberta roadways.

The program is named in honour of Cpl. Graeme Cumming, a member of the RCMP who was killed on duty by an impaired driver while attending a traffic incident on Highway 3 near Lethbridge on Aug. 12, 1998.

This is Schneider's first time winning the award. Schneider works in the Traffic Division. This is Cunningham's fifth consecutive year getting the award.

Presenting the awards to RCMP officers were MADD St. Paul Community Leader Dianne Belanger and Guy Belanger, MADD St. Paul Volunteer.
