Alberta RCMP will be promoting safe roads this holiday weekend as part of Operation Impact, a nation-wide campaign to promote safe driving.

Many Albertans will be behind the wheel over the holiday weekend visiting family and friends and enjoying the extra day of what is expected to be great weather.

The RCMP is spreading the message this weekend that road safety is crucial by spreading the message that impaired and distracted driving, being mindful of the road and weather conditions, driving the speed limit and wearing a seatbelt are needed to stay safe.

“Over the past few months, we’ve seen multiple collisions resulting in fatalities,” said Insp. Chris Romanchych, Alberta RCMP Traffic. “The goal of Operation Impact is to help ensure we avoid future tragedies, but we can’t do it without Albertans help.”

Police will be on the roads until Monday to enforce safe driving. On Friday they were near Evansburg, west of Edmonton, conducting a joint operation with Alberta Traffic Services, Parkland County Peace Officers and Alberta Fish and Wildlife.
