Regional High School lights up field in honour of class of 2020

ST. PAUL - St. Paul Regional High School took part in the #BEALIGHTALBERTA initiative on May 4.

The Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) encouraged schools to light up their sports fields at 9:30 pm on May 4 in honour of the Grade 12 athletes who didn't get to finish their athletic season in 2020, due to the cancellation of classes in March amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Years of skill development, physical training and practice in leadership should have culminated in a championship or other monumental event. But, spring sports didn’t end the way anyone thought they would. Students in Grade 10 and 11 can have another chance to hone their skills on their school team next year, but Grade 12 students are moving forward in a different way," reads the ASAA website.

"Although the lights may have been turned off on their season, the skills they’ve developed as athletes and as leaders will continue to shine bright into their next journey."
