ST. PAUL - St. Paul Regional High School swept its way through the Feb. 19 and 20 Northeast Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association zone championships in Vegreville, taking home all three banners at the event.

“The St. Paul Regional High School Curling team has accomplished something that hasn’t been done before,” said Angela Noel, vice principal at Regional High School. “All three teams won the NEASAA Zone Championship and will be travelling to Lethbridge for the ASAA Curling Provincial Championship from March 4 to 7.”

The girls’ curling team and mixed curling team went undefeated throughout the zone competition. The boys’ team had to play an extra tiebreaker match after being in a three-way tie for first in their pool because they had lost one round robin game by one point in an extra end, explained Noel.

“It was a very exciting two days of curling.”

Noel said the school is “very proud of our curlers and all of the hard work they have put in to get to where they are today.” The school is also thankful for the volunteer coaches and the community support that has been received by the curling program.
