BONNYVILLE – While carrying out roadside checks within the MD of Bonnyville jurisdiction, RCMP members found motorists violating not only the Traffic Safety Act but also the Criminal Code.

Just after midnight on March 27, a Bonnyville RCMP member initiated a roadside check with a motorist who was alleged to have been speeding on Highway 28, near Range Road 475.

Once pulled over, the female driver was found to be on a Canada-wide Driving Prohibition Order and had an active Lac La Biche warrant out for her arrest, according to an RCMP press release.

The RCMP officer arrested the 31-year-old woman from St. Paul and she was additionally charged under the Criminal Code for driving while prohibited.

She is set to appear in Bonnyville Provincial Court on May 17.

RCMP note that the woman “was given warnings for speeding, failing to provide proof of insurance and registration.”

Driver found under the influence of alcohol

Just two days later on March 29, a member of the RCMP St. Paul/Vermilion Traffic Services Unit conducted a roadside check with a motorist on 50 Ave. in Bonnyville around midnight whose “licence plate so dirty it was not visible,” according to RCMP.

At the roadside check, the officer conducted a Mandatory Alcohol Screening with the female driver who provided a breath sample that reportedly showed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

The 31-year-old from Frog Lake was issued provincial sanctions for operating a vehicle while impaired as well as a violation ticket for breaching the conditions of her driver’s licence and for transporting alcohol within easy reach.

The woman’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle seized for 30 days, according to RCMP.

Two arrested after roadside stop

While on patrol in the evening of March 30, Bonnyville RCMP located a suspicious truck repainted in black with a licence plate that did not match.

Police discovered the passenger of the vehicle was allegedly breaching conditions relating to another incident and was arrested for failing to comply with those conditions.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving while prohibited and driving a vehicle without registration documents, which was a condition that he was breaching related to another incident.

The driver also refused to provide a sample of his breath upon demand, according to RCMP.

The 21-year-old male driver from Bonnyville was charged under the Criminal Code for driving while prohibited, failing to provide a breath sample and failing to comply with a release order.

His court date for those matters is set for April 19.

The driver was further issued Provincial Traffic Violations for driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, transporting liquor in an open container and driving a vehicle with a non-compliant windshield.
