Robbery and assault among multiple charges facing Lac La Biche man

Police say dog-unit used to carry out warrant arrest on 28 year old

LAC LA BICHE - A Lac La Biche man who police say skipped a March 2023 court date for an aggravated assault charge, was caught by RCMP on Sept. 30, and is now facing 16 additional charges from outstanding warrants.

On Oct. 14, Lac La Biche RCMP issued a statement saying the new charges against 28-year-old Waylon Ballantyne are in relation to "a variety of offences comitted throughout the Lac La Biche area."

Local RCMP say they worked with a police K-9 unit to make the arrest.

Ballantyne is facing charges of robbery, assault with a weapon, two counts each of assault, uttering threats, driving while suspended and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Ballantyne is also facing five charges of failure to comply with court orders.

Ballantyne is now in custody, with a court appearance slated for later this week.

“The severity of Mr Ballantyne’s warrants speak to the impact one individual can have on our region. The Lac La Biche RCMP are dedicated to working towards ensuring a safe community by locating and arresting individuals who are a danger to those that we serve” says Constable Jordan Walker of the Lac La Biche RCMP.

Lac La Biche RCMP encourage the public to report any criminal or suspicious activity. Residents can call 911, the local detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

"Reports tell us where to look, who to look for, and where to patrol in the future," says Walker.
