UPDATED: Smoky Lake RCMP lift shelter in place order

A Shelter in Place order has been lifted for Smoky Lake.

UPDATE: Smoky Lake RCMP have lifted a 'Shelter in Place' order announced earlier Friday morning for those living in the area of the H. A. Kostash School in Smoky Lake.

Police are advising residents that they no longer need to shelter in place.

"This incident has been determined to not be criminal in nature," states an update from RCMP, shortly before 11 a.m. "There was never any threat to the public."

RCMP say, no further information will be released on the matter.  

SMOKY LAKE – Just after 9 a.m. on Friday, Smoky Lake RCMP was investigating a report of a man with a weapon near H. A. Kostash School in Smoky Lake. Police are asking residents in this area to stay in their homes and go to the basement if possible.  

Motorists are also asked to stay clear of this area as well. The school is currently on lockdown, confirms RCMP. 

“Parents must not attend at this time,” directs police. “An update will be sent when available.”
