ST. PAUL – Renovations to the emergency department (ED) at the St. Therese - St. Paul Healthcare Centre are now complete. Construction began in late fall 2023 and concluded in March 2025. Despite the work, the ED remained operational throughout the project.

The $3.2-million project, funded through the provincial government’s Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program, added three new exam rooms, bringing the total to 10. Existing treatment and triage spaces were also upgraded to improve patient privacy and safety.

Other enhancements include a bariatric-accessible patient washroom, improved staff support areas, and updates to key hospital infrastructure such as electrical, mechanical, medical gas, and nurse call systems.

In addition to ED renovations, upgrades were also made in other areas of the hospital, including a new diagnostic imaging space and X-ray machine, as well as a new electrocardiogram space.

The overall size of the emergency department remains unchanged, according to information from the AHS.

“These important enhancements ensure modern healthcare infrastructure and exceptional emergency care will continue to be available to our community for many years to come,” said Jamie Malone, the hospital's site manager, in a May 21 AHS press release.

Dr. Francis Adebayo, Community Medical Director, St. Paul, AHS North Zone, agreed, adding the enhancements will improve patient care. “A modernized emergency department is welcome news by our physicians and front-line nursing teams who provide timely, high-quality critical care to patients every day,” said Adebayo.
