Suspects charged in complaint of gun pointed at vehicle in Beaver Lake

Court dates set for suspects

LAC LA BICHE - Lac La Biche RCMP are reporting that an investigation into suspects considered "armed and dangerous" following a firearms complaint last week has resulted in the arrest of two Lac La Biche-area residents.

On March 20, at 2 pm. police were alerted to reports that a firearm had been pointed from a pickup truck towards the occupants of another vehicle on Mountain Trail in the Beaver Lake Cree Nation. At the scene, police learned the suspect vehicle was believed to be a dark-coloured Chevrolet pickup with at least four occupants. The truck had unique markings including dark tinted window, chrome running boards, a significant body lift and silver rails along the bed of the truck.

From the initial investigation, RCMP were said to be looking for the two male suspects in their 20s, one older male and a female in her 30s.

In a statement released March 28, local police say that on Thursday, March 23, Lac La Biche RCMP, members of the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services and the RCMP Emergency Response Team located and arrested two suspects in relation to this alleged complaint.  

Clayton Joseph Huppie, 39 from Lac La Biche, is facing a total of 14 charges including pointing a firearm, possession of firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, six counts of possessing a weapon contrary to court orders, resisting a peace officer, uttering threats, operating a vehicle while prohibited and two counts of failing to comply with probation orders.

Huppie was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Bonnyville Provincial court this week.

Bianca Beretta Berard, 33, a resident of Lac La Biche, has been charged with possession of firearm in a motor vehicle.

Berard has been released prior to an April 17 appearance in Lac La Biche Provincial Court.

No one was physically injured in the incident, and as the matter is now before the courts, RCMP have no further details to release.
