The Best of Alberta Photography displayed in Cold Lake

Until the end of April, the Cold Lake Energy Centre with display the Best of Alberta Photography Exhibition. An Artists Talk will be held on April 20 at the centre and will include a soft unveiling of the MMIW RED Series created by local photographer Susie O’Connor.

COLD LAKE – For the first time, the Best of Alberta Photography Exhibition will be displayed in the Lakeland. The free exhibition runs from April 5-30 at the Cold Lake Energy Centre.

The annual Best of Alberta Photography Exhibition showcases the top images from Alberta-based members of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) collective.

The photographs on display were selected at a Provincial Juried Image Competition held in September.

“These days, we rarely look at images that aren’t on screens,” said Susie O’Connor, a local photographer and owner of Images Studio in Cold Lake.

“A printed photography is tactile – it’s a completely different experience.”

O’Connor, who is also the Chair for PPOC Alberta, explains that the exhibition features images of the most creative, cutting edge and technically crafted work from Alberta’s PPOC photographers.

While the winning photos are already on display, O’Connor will be hosting an Artist Talk on April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Energy Centre.

The free evening event includes discussions around the exhibit as well as the unveiling of the MMIW RED Series created by O’Connor.

The MMIW RED series features many people from the Lakeland and highlights ongoing discrimination that has led to the disproportionally high rates of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people.
