Warrant issued for Bonnyville man following alleged fuel theft

From May 20-27, Bonnyville RCMP members have responded to multiple reports of theft, assault, utter threats and much more. In the last week officers were involved in 173 investigations.

Bonnyville – A warrant has been issued for a 32-year-old Bonnyville man for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstructing a police officer, following a report of fuel theft that allegedly took place on May 21. 

On May 22 at 12:30 p.m., the Bonnyville RCMP received a report of a suspicious dark green 2000 Chevrolet pickup allegedly involved in a theft of fuel from the day prior.   

RCMP members were told that the suspect vehicle was driving on Range Road 455 and Township Road 604 within the MD of Bonnyville.  

When Bonnyville RCMP members patrolled the area, they located the truck matching the description.  

“Members approached the suspect truck and questioned the driver who provided a false name before fleeing in the truck,” according to a press release by RCMP.  

The suspect was identified through investigative means, according to police.  

A warrant has since been issued for the arrest of the 32-year-old man from Bonnyville. 

Warrant put out for assault 

An arrest warrant is being sought for a 26-year-old woman who RCMP intend to lay charges of assault causing bodily harm against.  

On May 23 at 1 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP were called to a residence in Kehewin Cree Nation for an unrelated matter when the officer came across a victim with blood on her face and visible facial injuries.  

According to police, the investigation determined that a 26-year-old woman known to the victim had allegedly assaulted her and then fled the scene.   

Threats of violence over alcohol

On May 23 at 8:20 p.m., a Bonnyville resident called police and advised that there was a man wearing a bandana, grey sweater and jeans that had allegedly threatened to stab him if he did not steal alcohol at a local liquor store.   

The suspect was identified to police and located, arrested and charged for uttering threats and disturbing the peace.   

The 36-year-old man from Frog Lake First Nation was lodged in a cell until sober and released to appear in court on July 5. 

Police retrieve stolen cellphone, arrest suspect

RCMP have charged a 38-year-old man from Bonnyville with theft after security footage caught the alleged offence taking place. 

On May 25 at 8:30 a.m., a driver parked his truck outside a local hotel for a short period of time, entering the hotel briefly. 

While he was in the hotel, an individual reportedly entered the vehicle and stole a cell phone.   

A member of Bonnyville RCMP attended the scene and with the use of video surveillance at the hotel was able to determine the location of the stolen cell phone. The member was also able to locate the suspect and arrest him.   

“The 38-year-old male from Bonnyville had the victim’s cell phone on his person upon his arrest,” states RCMP. 

He is set to appear in court on June 21. 

Man charged with assault 

On May 25 just after 8 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a 911 call to attend a residence in Kehewin for a disturbance that had turned physical. 

Police were informed that a man had reportedly struck a female victim in the face with a cell phone. 

The victim and suspect were known to each other. 

The male suspect had fled the scene prior to police arrival but was located a few hours later and arrested.   

The 45-year-old man was charged with assault. He has been released from custody and is set to appear in court on June 28.
