Western entrance to Lac La Biche affected by two vehicle crash

Officials say highway will likely be one-lane until Monday afternoon

Lac La Biche Community Peace Officers and RCMP are saying that a Monday morning crash on Highway 55 two kilometres west of the Lac La Biche hamlet will be affecting traffic until early in the afternoon.

The 9 am crash involved an eastbound SUV and a westbound semi-truck. The SUV sustained significant damage to the driver's side in the collision which ripped off two of the driving wheels of the semi-truck. Debris was scattered for dozens of feet around the crash site, just east of the Mission Road intersection with the highway.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were at the scene along with highway maintenance crews.

Initial reports say the female driver, and lone occupant of the SUV, suffered serious injuries. The semi driver suffered minor injuries.

Road closed detour

Peace officers say both lanes of traffic will be closed until about noon and then will be opened for one-lane, alternating traffic for several hours as the investigation and clean up takes place. A detour around the crash site for area motorists is available onto the Stanley Drive service road at A&T Construction and the Petro Canada Bulk station.

Police have not issued a cause for the crash as the investigation continues.
