A winter storm storm warning is in effect for the area.

"Hazardous winter conditions are expected," according to Environment Canada.

"Snow will begin to fall early Saturday morning with total accumulations of 10 to 20 cm expected by late Saturday night. Strong winds gusting between 70 and 80 km/h are also forecast, which when combined with the falling snow will produce very poor visibility in snow and blowing snow. Conditions are expected to improve early Sunday morning."

The warning states people should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

The warning is in place for most of the Lac Lac Biche, St. Paul, Elk Point and Bonnyville areas.
