Despite the cold and wet conditions, riders from all across northeastern Alberta turned out to the annual quad rally in Ashmont this past weekend.

Registration for the ride commenced early Saturday morning at the Ashmont Agriplex. From there, riders headed north to the mid-point where lunch was served, and then continued on the approximately 55 km trail back to the Agriplex for dinner and a silent auction.

Contrary to what was reported in the last issue of the Journal, only the proceeds from the silent auction went to Haying in the 30's, a non-profit foundation that provides financial aid to cancer victims.

Around $1,300 was raised during the silent auction, according to Ashmont Ag. Society President, Garry Himschoot.

“It was great. It seemed like most of the people I talked to enjoyed it," Himschoot said. “People are talking and they'll be back again next year if we have it."

Himschoot would like to thank all the volunteers for their help as well as the sponsors and businesses that donated prizes for the auction. For news regarding next year's rally, check the quad rally's official website at www.ashmontquadrally.com.
