Canadiens head into holiday break with a win

The St. Paul Canadiens beat the Cold Lake Ice 8-4 at the Clancy Richard Arena on Friday night.

ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Canadiens battled through two periods of play on Friday night at the Clancy Richard Arena before dominating the third period and winning 8-4 against the Cold Lake Ice.

The Cold Lake Ice took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but were matched by two goals from the Canadiens before the first 20 minutes were up.

Heading into the second period, the Canadiens took the lead with a goal by Brody Green, only to find themselves back in a tie a few minutes later.

The third period proved to be the difference maker for the home team, even though it started with Cold Lake scoring 23 seconds into the period and regaining the lead.

Less than a minute later, an unassisted goal by Kyler Steinhauer-Morin, seemed to reinvigorate the Canadiens, who went on to score four unanswered goals, including two from William Chemago, one from Isaak Watters, and the last from Nicolas Beaudoin.

Heading into the holiday break, the Canadiens are in third place, 12 points ahead of the fourth placed Cold Lake Ice. The Killam Wheat Kings and the Wainwright Bisons take the second and third place spots in the NEAJBHL, but each of the top three teams are just a single point ahead of the other.

The Canadiens next game is in Lloydminster on Jan. 7, followed by a home game against Killam on Jan. 8, and a game in Lac La Biche on Jan. 9.
