The St. Paul Canadiens peewee “A” team took second place in the Group A final game against the visiting Marwayne Sled Dogs by a score of 6 – 4, during the recent St. Paul Minor Hockey Association peewee “A” tournament this weekend.
The tournament saw five teams from Cold Lake, Marwayne, Grande Prairie, Sherwood Park and North Seera from Edmonton visit the Canadiens on home ice.
The hometown boys won their first game against Sherwood Park 9 – 3, and proceeded to beat Grande Prairie 7 – 4 in Saturday’s games.
The team lost their next game by a single goal on Sunday morning against North Seera, a game that saw Canadiens’ Dylan Odgaard scoring a hat-trick.
“Dylan Odgaard did well in the game,” said coach Ted Graling after the game, and he proceeded to praise Canadiens’ captain, Brayden Labant, for his effort in the tournament.
Labant scored all of the team’s four goals in the Group A final game against the Sled Dogs, but that wasn’t enough to stop the Sled Dogs from winning the game in the third period by three unanswered goals.
Cynthia Roy, the manager of the Canadiens, praised the team’s players for their efforts in its final game on Sunday. “The kids worked real hard, and played against Marwayne at the end,” commented Roy, noting that the Sled Dogs are at the top of the league.
“So we did really good,” she said.
Roy also took the opportunity to give special mention to the team’s goalie, Jaden Saik, for his skills in net.
Saik, the Canadiens’ only goalie, has been consistent and reliable for the team, according to Roy.
