An NHL hockey legend and a star of the local college hockey scene will be speaking to a full house this Friday night, as the 11th annual Portage College Sports and Education Dinner has officially sold out of tickets.

Organizers of the event — that will feature 1972 Team Canada member and Chicago Blackhawks alumni Dennis ‘the Silver Jet’ Hull, as well as Portage College Voyageur Captain Brendan Lamb — are pleased with the ticket sales.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped in the selling of tickets and tables. To all who purchased a ticket (or) table to the event, your support is so appreciated,” said Lori Thom, the college’s event planner in a letter to the event’s organizing committee.

Attendees will also enjoy a meal prepared by the college’s culinary arts staff, as well as a live and silent auction. Tickets for the 250-seat event were $95 and tables of eight were starting at $800. For the last 10 years, the event has helped to raise money for the college’s athletic scholarships and awards program.

Past speakers at the event have included Walter Gretzky, boxers George Chuvalo and Scottie Olsen and Olympic cross-country ski gold medalist Beckie Scott.
