Local minor ball season swings to a close

The Kikino boys U18 team was competing for top spot at the Lakeland Minor Ball championships over the weekend. Kikino finished the regular season in fifth place overall in the eight-team league. Marwayne finished the nine-game season in top spot of the U-18 division with with an undefeated record. Bonnyville and St. Paul teams rounded out the top three. Elizabeth Settlement and Pierceland finished the season at the bottom of the league standings.

As the final championship weekend rolled up, teams in all categories across the Lakeland wrapped up their regular seasons, playing make-up games and dodging rain storms to close out their league play.

Plamondon's U15 Mutangs girls softball team finished their season with one win in eight games. One of their last games of the regular season saw them face Goodfish Lake. The Goodfish team beat the Mustangs, walking in the winning runs in the game's open inning. The Goodfish team finished their season with two wins out of six games played. The Plamondon team ended the season with one win in the eight played, losing their last game on June 20 to the Lac La Biche team. The Lac La Biche U-15 girls finished their season with a 6-2 record.

In the lead-up to the final week of the regular minor ball season, the Plamondon U15 boys beat the Lac La BIche U15 squad in a back-and-forth tilt. The Lac La Biche team ended their regular season last Wednesday night with an exhibition home game win against the Athabasca team. The Lac La Biche team finished their season with a 5-3 record. The Plamondon U15 team wrapped up their regular season last Monday with a 15-11 win over visiting Marwayne.
