It was a long road trip, a four-game set in the southern portion of the province for the Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs this past week, and though things started out a little slow with two losses, the Pontiacs really picked it up, ending the trip with a bang, blowing out the Drumheller Dragons 9-3 Sunday.

Pontiacs defenceman Blake Leask nearly beat the Dragons on his own, notching a hat trick while adding three assists for the six-point afternoon and game star selection. Leask is now up to 30 points through 33 games this season, good for fourth on the team.

Just a night earlier the Pontiacs won a back-and-forth battle with the Calgary Canucks, eventually coming out on top 5-4 after a shootout.

The Pontiacs were shutout in Olds 2-0 last Thursday, after kicking off the four-game road trip with a 4-3 loss to the Calgary Mustangs Wednesday.

Though it was Leask leading the way Sunday, the Pontiacs had other key contributors in the nine-goal outburst.

Sixteen-year-old defenceman Colton Waltz racked up three assists in the game, while forward Dillon Currie had a goal and two assists.

Co-captain Kevin Carthy and defenceman Redford Swan dished out two helpers in the blowout, while teammates Tanner Dusyk and Jordon Krankowsky put up a goal and an assist each.

The night before, the Pontiacs received goals from Keith Csizmadia, Levi Ansell, Krankowsky and Jackson Dudley.

Dudley and Leask scored in Saturday's shootout, while Pontiacs goalie Dylan Wells, who started all four games on the road trip, stopped two Calgary players in the shootout for the win – his 14th on the season.

Picking up four of a possible eight points on the road, the Pontiacs remain in sole possession of fourth place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League's North Division, with a record of 25-9-4, just a point back of the Lloydminster Bobcats.

Bonnyville will play two more games this week before taking a break for the holidays.

The Pontiacs take on the Grande Prairie Storm Wednesday night before closing out the month with a game against the Sherwood Park Crusaders Thursday.

Both games start at 7 p.m. at the R. J. Lalonde Arena.
