Over 400 young athletes from the region hit Bonnyville's Wetlands Fields this past Saturday for some friendly matches of soccer.

The tournament was about having fun and developing skills, so scores were not kept, explained tournament director for the Bonnyville Soccer Association Jeff Ryll.

Thirty-two teams in divisions U6, U8 and U10 participated, which Ryll said are development levels.

He said they try to encourage participation and give all players equal time to play on the field so they can learn about soccer.

Ryll said a lot of work goes in to hosting such an event and noted the key role the 75-80 volunteers played.

"I'd go nuts if I didn't have help," he said.

Ryll was grateful for the association's board members' participation and that the weather co-operated, noting how it snowed at a tournament last year.
