Voyageurs drop home opener to Ooks

Losing three-nothing to the most recent league's-best team wasn't such a bad way to start the 2022 regular season of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Association.

The Portage Voyageurs kept pace with the NAIT Ooks in the Friday night season home opener at the Bold Center, but couldn't capitalize on the scoreboard, losing the game 3-0.

After two pre-season wins at the end of October against Briercrest College, the Voyageurs came to Friday night's game with an impressive eight goals scored on the offence — but the team could only generate 21 shots on the Ooks  netminder. NAIT registered 33 shots on Voyageurs' goalie Jacob Gnidziejko

NAIT's goal tally came with one goal in the first period, and two in the second. Portage outshot NAIT 11-8 in the final period, but couldn't get on the scoreboard.

The Voyaguers' next game is on November 19 against the Concordia Thunder. The Voyageurs' next home game is on Friday, November 26 against the Augustana Vikings. That game starts at 7pm.
