A rejuvenated Bonnyville Voyageurs football squad came into spring season hungry for even more success this year, but will be up against tough competition, according to head coach Brian Walsh.

The Voyageurs are as strong as they have ever been, explained Walsh during practice Wednesday night. They have the same number of new recruits as they do veterans.

"We're pretty well half and half - 18 returning players and 18 new and all Bandits," he said. "That's a real good sign."

The Bandits are Bonnyville's junior football team and have consistently been feeding an increasing number of players to the Voyageurs each season.

This year, nearly the entire Voyageurs football team has been through the Bandits system and Walsh believes this gives his team an advantage.

"That's really going to help us. They already know the rules and the basics of the game."

With what he has seen so far this spring and what he expects from his returning players, he said the Voyageurs receivers will rival any in the league.
