ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Canadiens have taken a 2-0 lead in the first series of NEAJBHL playoffs against the Onion Lake Border Chiefs. The Canadiens skated away with a 14-1 win on Saturday night, following their 6-0 win on Thursday night.

There will be 250 players on 17 teams that are participating in 24 games over the three-day event.

Students from across the Northeast Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (NEASAA) gathered in Lloydminster Feb. 12 and 13 to take part in this year's zone curling championship.

This year's men's and ladies' bonspiel hosted by the Bonnyville Curling Club drew in 16 men's teams and nine ladies' teams to the rink.

Minor hockey teams from across the Lakeland will be joined by 26 others from as far away as Fort McMurray, Ponoka, Lloydminster and Meadow Lake as they take to the ice in Cold Lake, Bonnyville and Elk Point in the fifth Ronald McDonald House Winterland Invitational tournament.

On Monday morning, Minister of Tourism and Sports Joseph Schow announced that the 2026 Alberta Winter Games will be co-hosted by the Town and MD of Bonnyville, City of Cold Lake, and the Village of Glendon.  

Located right outside of Cold Lake in the M.D of Bonnyville, Kinosoo Ridge Resort offers inclusivity and accessibility in the world of winter sports.  

The provincial government will provide an $820,000 operating grant to the 2026 host society to help cover operating costs such as staffing, transportation, food, venues and promotions.

The St. Paul Canadiens have made local history and finished the 2023-24 season in the number one spot of the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League (NEAJBHL).

District curling competition took place in Bonnyville earlier this month, with teams vying for spots at the Northeast Alberta School's Athletic Association (NEASAA), which is set to bring curlers from across the region this week.
