Rodney “Hot Rod” Belly was born in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan on
August 26, 1950. He passed away peacefully in Elk Point Health
Centre, Saturday, July 3, 2021 at the age of 70 years. Rodney will
be remembered for being a jokester . . . always humouring, always
laughing. Rodney was a hard-working individual, working for local
farmers. He was always readily available for any task. He was a
true humble and respectful man; one of his greatest strengths was
simply being kind. He participated in Cultural events, and involved
himself with Sweatlodges and Sundances he truly believed in.
Rodney developed into a great story-teller, and you could sit
alongside him for hours listening to his stories that were passed
on by parents, by respected elders, by siblings, by relatives, and
by friends. He was a true caretaker by nature, always nurturing
Mother Earth, and following his parents’ teachings.
Rodney loved his sport of handgames. He’d travel near and far
to wherever the tournament called. He converted his van into his
personal hotel retreat at most times. He had to save enough money
for entry fees!
Rodney will be remembered by his forever friend, Margaret Halkett
of 22 years; his surviving siblings, Angeline (William), Rose Irene,
Pauline (Ken), Hubert (Eva), Percy, Annabelle (Roland), Lavern
(Donette), Lorin (Kim), George C., Georgina, Jean, Ron, Lesley
& Shirley; numerous nieces & nephews; many friends, sisters &
brothers by choice. He was predeceased by his parents, Philomene
Faithful, George Faithful & Lawrence Alexander; siblings, Calvin
Alexander, Viola Faithful, Clara Chief & Gail Faithful. A Wake
was held on Wednesday, July 7 at Norman C. Quinney Careers
Centre, Frog Lake. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday,
July 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Norman C. Quinney Careers Centre, Frog
Lake. Pastor Wilfred Cross officiated, with interment in Anglican
