On Sunday, Feb 21, 2021 Alvena Dubé of Edmonton, AB, formerly of Plamondon, AB, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Alvena is survived by sister Lena (néeDubé) Plamondon of Lac La Biche, niece Céleste (née Plamondon) (John) Zurbrigg of Edmonton, nephew Maurice (Susan née Reimer) Plamondon of Lac La Biche, sister-in-law Marie (née Plamondon) Dubé of Lac La Biche, many nieces/nephews plus 3 more generations of nieces/nephews. Alvena is predeceased by parents Arthur Jr and Sylvia (Gagnon) Dubé, siblings Oral (Jeanne Limoges) Dubé, Little Lena, Edgar Dubé, Edmond (Anita Gauthier) Dubé, brotherin-law Albin Plamondon. Alvena worked for 35 years as a pharmacist technician at the Edmonton General Hospital. After she retired, she enjoyed many years hiking with The Trekkers. In addition to their weekly Edmonton area hikes, she enjoyed their one-week hiking trips around Alberta and BC. She will never forget the time, when their group was helicoptered to a high mountain ridge in Kananaskis country before hiking down. She said there were no words to describe the fabulous view! In the summer when she was not hiking, she could be found relaxing at a family lakeside retreat in her little holiday trailer. During her annual one-month sojourn there, she enjoyed her nieces/nephews’ company along with their children. She could spend hours watching the birds on the lake. She loved dogs, horses and butterflies. Alvena enjoyed the friendship and activities at the downtown Churchill Retirement Residence during her 4 years of living there. She never stopped appreciating her view of the horizon, trees, river, downtown buildings and Churchill Square. Her motto in life was: “Be at peace with oneself and do what you think is right in your heart. Life is good!” Due to the covid restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be planned later. The family wishes to thank Lewis Estates Retirement Residence for their care of our aunt in these last 5 months. In lieu of flowers, donations to Marian Centre, 10528 – 98 St. NW, Edmonton, AB, T5H 2N4, may be made in Alvena’s name. Aunty Alvena donated to this organization for many years.
