Obit - Mary Fraser

On October 18, 2020, Mary Fraser of St. Paul passed away at the age of 89  years.

Mary was born September 26, 1931, third child to parents, Mike & Elizabeth Slowski who immigrated from Ukraine in 1929.  Born and raised on a farm, Mary grew up “one to be reckoned with”.  She went to school at Sugden for 7 years; then decided to go to Edmonton to find out what else is out there.  There she met and later married Norman Fraser.  Together they raised three children.  His work took them to B.C., but they later returned to Edmonton to settle down.  Mary got a job at Dairy Queen and her specialty was decorating cakes.  She also did a lot of knitting and crocheting.  Mary enjoyed get-togethers with family.  She was always willing to come and help family members celebrate their birthday or a family reunion.  It actually became a tradition.  As her health was fading, Sunnyside Manor was to be her home for the last few years.  She leaves to mourn 1 son, Norman (Margaret) & their children, Norman, Kevin & Amanda; 1 daughter, Donna (Tony); 2 sisters; & 1 sister-in-law.  Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia; mom & dad; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; her husband, Norman; & her special friend who was there to lean on during hard times.  She will be missed by all.

A Private Funeral Service was held at Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel, St. Paul, with interment in Sugden Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Sugden.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation c/o 5626-51 Street, St. Paul, Alberta T0A 3A1.
