Irene (Labrie) Girodat, our Beautiful Smiling Angel, received her wings when she passed away peacefully in Okotoks, AB on December 24, 2021 at the age of 96.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her little sister, Marie Mercier, all her children and their spouses George, Rose (Bob) Rourke, Willie, Laura (Lorne) Shallock, Paul, Pearl (Jack) Thomson, her cherished Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and all her nieces and nephews and everyone she ever met.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Clatus, her son Peter and her brother Clarence.
Irene was born March 15, 1925, in St. Edouard, AB to parents Romeo and Roseanna (Basterash) Labrie.
In 1948, she moved to Vancouver, BC, and it was there she met her husband.
Irene and Clat were married on June 2, 1951 and raised their family of 7 children in Surrey, BC.
Irene and Clat moved to Stony Plain, AB in 1994 for the drier climate. In 2010, she moved to Okotoks to be closer to the Rourkes. She lived in South Calgary at Beverly Estate and then moved into Okotoks at The Heartland. The last 6 months saw her hospitalized and then moved to Mayfair Care in Calgary and then finally to Tudor Manor.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton, AB.
The family would like to send our heartfelt thanks to The Brenda Stratford Foundation and all the staff at Tudor Manor for making the last few months of her life so peaceful. The care and compassion all the staff showed Irene and her family was above and beyond what we could have ever hoped for and we are so grateful to them all.
