On March 28, 2024, our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie & friend, Gunhild “Gunnie” Kristine Nelson of Stoney Lake, County of St. Paul, Alberta, passed away at the age of 93 years. With her caring ways, she shared her beautiful smile, soul & spirit with everyone she met.

To mourn Gunnie’s passing are her loving family & friends. She is survived by her 3 children, son, Arne Nelson; daughters, Vickie (Robert) Hickie & Sheila Parks; 7 grandchildren, Eric Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Amanda (Simon) Nelson, Candace (Josh) Hickie, Rory (CheLbie) Hickie, Vern (Sheri) Gerhardt & Pat (Nina) Gerhardt; 14 great-grandchildren; Natalay, Brantley, Sakura, Lane, Dakoda, Justin, Samantha, Devlyn, Nate, Jake, Alyssa, Josh, Ryan & Mya; supportive family, Dwayne (Kelly) Onyschuk, Arne Bjorneskaret, Viv (Leo) Dakin, Elaine (Colin) Bartee, Nick Onyschuk, Gerry High, & numerous other loving & caring family & friends. Gunnie was predeceased by her loving husband & soulmate, Edwin; parents, Arne & Klara Bjorneskaret; 2 sisters, Sonia Onyschuk & Agnes (Marvin) Bartee; brother, Alfred (Agnes) Bjorneskaret; son-in-law, Ken Parks; nephew, James Bartee; niece, Rita Bjorneskaret and other close family & friends.

The family would like to acknowledge & sincerely thank those who respectfully cared for Gunnie, including Dr. Ashaolu & Dr. Ebisike, Elk Point Health Centre nurses & hospital staff and the Elk Point Home Care Team. Special thanks to all those who loved & cared for Gunnie, keeping the memories of this special lady tucked away forever in their hearts.

A Celebration of Gunnie’s Life will be held on Monday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Chapel, St. Paul with Pastor Kelly Sibley officiating. Cremation has taken place with inurnment in St. George’s Cemetery, Stoney Lake to be held at a later date. Those wishing to view the service online may do so by Livestream by clicking the Live Service tab on our website. A recording of the service will also be made available.
