Lived in ST Albert for nearly 50 years. Raised a family here
What a small minded letter and I strongly suspect that the concern for people using food banks and struggling to pay rent and for essentials is just a cover for those who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Where is that concern the rest of the time?
I am a senior, I did not go but think this was a great event funded at least in part by local sponsors . Look at the photos and you see kids and families having a great time. These are people who would not go to bars or other watch parties, some of which charge a fee, but had memorable experiences. Well done St. Albert Council.

Smith said, "Banning industries is just not something we are going to do.". Maybe not, but she sure makes it difficult for some industries, e.g. renewable energy .
In response to a study on possible effects of mining on fish , Schultz said, “the province is looking into the issue and is waiting for it to be confirmed by the peer-review process.” How novel! The UCP will be listening to scientific experts and not the ill-informed rabble that is a large part of its support and which seems to wield power over Smith.

Much of the skill set described by Mr. Parker seems to be more appropriate for managers than for members of Council. I fear that much of what he describes would inevitably result in Council micromanaging the work of the city departments. Yes, Council needs to recognize the community priorities but we do not need them actively managing projects which is what he seems to be suggesting.

The mayors are correct. Hundreds of businesses, some very large ones, left Quebec when talk of separation started,

No. It is the same MLA who could no longer stomach Smith attempting to cover up the AHS scandal.

Good for him. All of Alberta MLAs and MPs should be required to state , for or against with no waffling, where they stand on separation.
Smith has admitted that the rule changes for a referendum were made in order to head off formation of a separatist party running in an election and splitting the right. This was not about public participation in democracy, it was about self preservation.

Congratulations to Caleb. I watch a lot of rugby from New Zealand where the Crusaders really is an elite team with an exceptional history of success. This will be an amazing experience .

Yet here it is with many others for and against separation.

"She says Ottawa is to blame for decades of lost investment and resource revenue" Well, she should also look at how her actions e.g. road blocks for investing in renewable energy sources and decades of sweetheart deals for O and G e.g low royalty rates and gifts for cleaning up wells they were supposed to clean up anyway have resulted in lost investment and revenue.
