"“Achievement of selenium reduction objectives is expected to progress over multiple years as mines advance towards reclamation.”

In other words, no specific timelines, no specific goals, no accountability. Par for the course.

From another story, 'A fact sheet from the White House rationalized the rate change by claiming Canada "failed to cooperate in curbing the ongoing flood of fentanyl"’.

This is what Canada’s up against: an administration whose concept of “fact” is whatever bovine fecal mass they care to generate. We owe them nothing. Find reliable trade partners.

To repeat an oft-used line by this government (and no pun intended), I suggest that they STAY IN THEIR LANE. Let municipalities determine local policies.

Alberta audit suggests patients paying clinic membership fees get more thorough care

It’s horrific as well as a little funny seeing these people twist themselves like pretzels trying to explain how paying $5000 a year for “membership fees” doesn’t constitute paying money for medically necessary care, especially when four of the clinics were “members-only”. A second tier of health care for wealthy people will take human resources out of the public system. This isn’t vacation planning, it’s a constitutionally-guaranteed right that the UCP is threatening.

"Provinces like Alberta ... are expected to pivot their economies towards renewable energy in the years ahead.”
Common sense would dictate, when the world’s fossil fuel market is expected to peak in less than two years. What evidence is there of this pivot?

I’ve spent more time and effort gardening this year than in previous years. It feels like a remedy to the destruction and antipathy of the world today.

Sign me up! Continuing to discuss separation is a waste of our time and money. Legitimate concerns (some of which fuel the separation campaign) should be debated, but discussing Alberta separating from Canada is about as sensible and productive as discussing the law of gravity.

Have you seen any pictures of the James Bay Lowlands? If you had, you’d understand the sheer absurdity of building across this to a nonexistent deep-sea port in the notoriously shallow James Bay. Even if they did have the support of the First Nations affected, there’s nothing of this project that reflects "responsible development, economic freedom and common sense.”

This project supports the oil and gas industry at the expense of Albertans and others who share this land. Don’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

How do you feel about religious values influencing municipal politics?

Poll |

BH
Barb H. commented

Some people who are horrified by the idea of Sharia Law are just fine with imposing their own beliefs on others. Religion can (and is bound to) influence your own choices and actions. As soon as you impose your beliefs on others, it ceases to be faith and becomes political -- and anything but democratic.
