St. Paul’s newest autobody shop promises to bring a unique flavour to the area, with brand-new technology and decades of professional experience allowing the business to offer traditional autobody and custom jobs, too.
“We share the same views and beliefs, of giving the customers a very high- quality product and experience,&” Black Ace Collision’s Allen Preston said of why it made sense to him and co-owner Corwin Robinson to join forces.
“What we envisioned was top-notch quality work, with the very latest in equipment, and above all, the most important thing - a very qualified workforce.&”
Preston explains when he and his wife Eva retired from ownership of Heartland Fuels, they both decided they needed an exit strategy and talked about opening an autobody shop, based on Preston’s history as an autobody tech for 18 years.
It just so happened that shortly after, Preston stopped to visit his old friend Robinson at his business, Ratical Linerz & Glassworx Inc. The pair had worked together years before, and Robinson mentioned how he had long wanted to open an autobody shop too.
“He looked and me and I looked at him,&” said Preston, explaining in that moment, they both understood there was a possibility to create something together. “Boom - we said, let’s start discussing.&”
“I think it was a time that we wanted to get back to our roots,&” said Robinson, adding it’s all about passion. “To me, that’s the secret of business - you have to love what you do.&”
The pair decided they would continue to offer glass, spray-in box liners, and custom parts services that Robinson offered before, but would also offer insurance and collision autobody services, custom work, specialty paint jobs and performance add-ons.
The pair have invested in the latest in technology, such as specialty Ford-Aluminum repair equipment, and a spray booth that has “bake capabilities,&” so paint finishes are as resilient and flawless as a factory finish.
The creative offerings will save people from having to travel outside of the area for custom jobs, notes Preston, saying, “If you want to restore a classic car, or help with custom or performance packages, we can do that, along with helping people when they are involved in an accident. We just happen to have the talent that will produce that here.&”
With the business including Preston and Eva, Robinson and his wife Bonnie, father-and-son team Jeff and Brenden McKay, Jessica Reeves, and Dorien Lozeau, a sense of Family will resonate.
“That’s how we want to keep running, and make the whole business feel like a family and a team,&” says Preston.
