Take a closer look with St. Paul Eyecare

We want you to have better vision, but we also want you to have better overall health.

St. Paul Eyecare is all about taking a closer look.

Of course, the clinic offers eye exams, eyewear and contact lenses, but optometrist and clinic owner Dr. Kassandra Shaw says her focus is broader than the eye alone, explaining, “We want you to have better vision, but we also want you to have better overall health.&”

Shaw is no stranger to St. Paul, having lived in the community for the past four years. Over the past couple of years, she has been traveling back and forth to work in clinics in Vegreville and Lloydminster, but she has long wanted to set up her own clinic in St. Paul.

“When I first moved here, I found the community very welcoming,&” she said, adding she thought, ‘This is a good spot; I want to stay here.'

Since opening her clinic a few months ago, Dr. Shaw's focus has been on creating a health care experience like no other. She and her staff create an environment where each individuals overall health is their main point of focus.

“We want our patients to leave with an individualized experience that has expanded their eye health knowledge and helped improve their quality of life.&”

Due to her strong focus on overall health, Dr. Shaw has cutting edge technology including laser imaging which is new to this region. This imaging allows her to detect and diagnose abnormalities that may not have otherwise been discovered, including high blood pressure, diabetes, MS, carotid artery blockage, and cancerous growths, to name a few.

Optometry's scope of practice is unique in Alberta.

Dr. Shaw is certified for her full scope, which means the ability to order blood work, CT scans, MRIs, and prescribe oral medications as necessary. She is also certified to fully manage Glaucoma and other eye conditions.

“This helps us better serve our patients, send off necessary referrals, and hopefully work towards creating even better communication between health care professionals in the Lakeland region.&”

These advances are intended to improve the delivery and quality of health care in our province.

“As Albertans, we are lucky to have health care cover any medically necessary visits to your optometrist, as every other province pays out of pocket for this service,&” says Dr. Shaw.

“At St. Paul Eyecare, we want people to have an experience that they enjoy and feel comfortable with,&” she says, adding, “For some, this can mean a one-hour consultation while for others it means us accommodating busy lifestyles.&”

St. Paul Eyecare is located at 4902 50th Ave St. Paul, AB. Connect with us on Facebook or call us now to book an appointment 587-465-1234.

Dr. Shaw looks forward to serving this community.
