On Monday at 10:15 p.m., St Paul emergency services responded to a head-on collision involving a southbound semi tractor trailer and northbound Toyota Corolla on Highway 36 near Township Road 582.

Visibility at the time of the collision had turned extremely poor because of a sudden dense snowfall, which caused the 89-year-old female driver of the Toyota Corolla to become disoriented, according to an RCMP press release.

The Corolla drove into the oncoming lane and came to a full stop in a curved portion of the highway. The southbound semi entered the curve and was unable to avoid a collision with the Corolla.

The driver of the Corolla was extricated from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi tractor trailer was uninjured.

Traffic was reduced to one lane for approximately 90 minutes while the investigation and roadway clean-up took place.

Investigation into this matter continues. RCMP believe environmental factors played a key role in the collision.
