Candidates declare intentions to run

The Green Party and the NDP party recently announced candidates for the federal election in the Westlock-St. Paul constituency.

The Green Party and the NDP party recently announced candidates for the federal election in the Westlock-St. Paul constituency.

Lisa Grant, from Morinville, said that she is putting her name forward with the Green Party because she agrees with all the party’s policies, including environment, economy, culture and community policies.

Her campaign will be based on three ideas, “sustainability, accountability and efficiency,” because they are the terms that best represent the Green Party, she said.

“The Green message is very important in this day and age,” said Grant, adding, that she put her name forward because, “I wanted to vote Green and I wanted to give the other 100,000 people living in this riding a chance to vote Green too.”

Lyndsey Henderson has been confirmed as the candidate for the NDP party, totaling four candidates confirmed at press time for the Westlock-St. Paul constituency.

“She understands the vast amount of wealth and resources that we have in rural Alberta and is concerned about how we manage those resources, in particular natural gas, oil and water,” said Mandy Marie Melnyk, a regional organizer for the NDP in Alberta.

Conservative Party incumbent MP Brian Storseth is seeking re-election and Liberal Party nominee Rob Fox has also confirmed his name on the May 2 ballet.
