The Knights of Columbus Christmas Hampers program finished off a successful holiday season last weekend by supplying 136 local families with the means to have a great Christmas feast.
The Christmas Hampers program received over $13,000 in cash donations this year, and program co-chair Simon Dargis said that the amount of donations received through stores was also tremendous.
“The goodness of the people and generosity of the people of St. Paul has been even more than last year,” he said. “The deposit boxes for groceries and non-perishable goods saw very generous donations.”
Dargis added that the hampers provide enough food for any family to have a nice Christmas dinner.
“We have dry cookies, milk, loaves of bread, ham, canned soups, canned vegetables and cereals,” said Dargis. “It’s a beautiful package . . . it’s a nice package for a meal for any family, small or large.”
Dargis said that the program is very thankful for help from local businesses that supported the Christmas Hampers program, as well as the many members of the St. Paul community and surrounding area whose generous donations have made the program a success.
“We are very happy and we’d like to thank the public of St. Paul and the surrounding area for being so generous towards the Christmas hampers,” said Dargis.
Families receiving Christmas hampers picked them up at the St. Paul Seniors Centre last Sunday, where volunteers from the Knights of Columbus were on hand to assist, as well as volunteers from the Santa’s Elves program, who were on scene to hand out wrapped Christmas presents to families with children.
