ST. PAUL – Design work is set to begin to improve the traffic triangle intersection of Highway 41 and Highway 29, located west of Elk Point.
During the County of St. Paul council meeting on Aug. 12, Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul MLA Scott Cyr told council funding has been secured to move the project into the design phase.
“I look forward to seeing that design work being done and we can look at the actual costs of that,” he said.
“It is a hazard,” added Cyr, referring, to an example of a collision at the intersection on June 24, where a woman was found in critical condition.

Cyr also told council he has been hearing concerns from residents about the four-way St. Brides intersection and plans to request a review of the intersection. “I want to make sure all of the government intersections are safe,” he said.
In April, a collision claimed the lives of three people at the Highway 29 and Highway 36 intersection.
Previously, Cyr said he requested a review of the intersection, and Alberta Transportation reported the intersection was operating within normal guidelines.
“But clearly, there’s enough outcry,” said Cyr.
He said some neighboring MLAs, such as Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, are also hearing concerns from constituents regarding the intersection.
Reeve Glen Ockerman welcomed the news, believing the intersection is seeing more traffic lately. “I think we're starting to see more traffic go that way because of increased congestion on [Highway] 28,” he said.
