Fire trucks, food, and safety on tap at fire hall open house

ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Fire Department held its annual open house a week earlier than usual, and was welcomed with sunny skies on Sept. 23.

Firefighters put on safety demonstrations that included how to properly extinguish a grease fire. Members also showed the crowd the steps taken to extricate people from vehicles, following a collision, using the Jaws of Life.

Fire truck rides, a kids' FireFit course, spraying water from hoses, and more kept people busy throughout the Saturday afternoon event.

The open house precedes Fire Prevention Week, which is scheduled to take place from Oct. 8 to 14.
