GOODRIDGE - On May 24, the Goodridge 4-H beef Club held their annual club achievement day.
The day went smoothly and the 12 members were very excited to show their projects.
Conformation judge Amanda Pugh gave members an explanation of card judging, and members judged a panel of four steers on display, writing their reasoning on judging cards. The show then moved on with the timed grooming competition.
While members were grooming in the barn, the five Cleaver members put on an adorable show, leading baby calves around the ring once. They were presented with some amazing gifts, which made their day.
Grooming and Showmanship judge, Kira Axley, watched the members closely through the timed grooming competition and watched for showmanship throughout the entire day.
Grooming Winners: Senior - 1st Kali Janz, 2nd Naya Janz, Intermediate - 1st Aubrey Folmer, 2nd Sierra Robinson, Junior - 1st Carly Kwiatkowski, 2nd Jackson Janz.
Showmanship Winners: Senior - 1st Naya Janz, 2nd Kali Janz, Intermediate - 1st Sierra Hofer, 2nd Aubrey Folmer, Junior - 1st Jackson Janz, 2nd Lincoln Folmer.
The female show had a variety of entries including heifers, 2 year old cow/calf, a 3 year old cow/calf, and a breeders herd.
Judge Amanda explained what she was looking for in breeding females and gave comments on the breeder’s herd entry showcased by Sierra Robinson.
Breeding Project Winners: Grand Champion Heifer - Sierra Robinson, Reserve Champion Heifer - Abbigail Janz, Grand Champ 2 Year Old - Naya Janz, Reserve Champion 2 Year Old - Jackson Janz, Grand Champion 3 Year Old - Sierra Robinson. When each class of age was done, the Top Female Class consisted of the leading two females from each previous class, despite their age.
Judge Amanda gave her opinion on the cattle once again and awarded Top Female to Sierra Robinson with her heifer project. Reserve Top Female went to Sierra Robinson with her 3 Year Old Project. Once the female competition was over, the show ended with Champion Steer Class: Grand Champion Steer - Sierra Robinson, Reserve Champion Steer - Wyatt Robinson.
Final announcements were exciting with the Rate of Gain Winner being a tie between Wyatt Robinson and Caleb Hofer.
Card Judging Winners were announced: Junior - 1st Carly Kwiatkowski, 2nd Lincoln Folmer, Intermediate - 1st Abbigail Janz, 2nd Caleb Hofer, Senior - 1st Kali Janz, 2nd Naya Janz.
Carly Kwiatkowski took home the Arthur Thompson Memorial Award.
The show concluded with special thank-yous to the two judges, ringmen Ryan Kwiatkowski and Donald Kwiatkowski, emcee Austin Kwiatkowski, and weighman Jason Richter.
The club sent out a special thank you to their sponsors and parent volunteers as well. With the day wrapped up, the club is looking forward to their year end fundraising barbecue on June 13.
