An investigation into an alleged home invasion where at least three people were injured in Saddle Lake is ongoing.

On April 24, St. Paul RCMP were called to a residence in Saddle Lake. They were advised of a complaint of a home invasion where shots had been fired.

“Upon arrival it was determined that two male occupants of the house had been shot and another male had been assaulted with a weapon,” according to an RCMP press release. “All victims were transported to St. Paul hospital with non life threatening injuries.”

An investigation into the incident found that four masked individuals forced their way into the residence and confronted several of the occupants. As of last week, it had yet to be determined if the suspects were known to the victims.

RCMP continue to investigate the matter.

During the early morning of April 26, St. Paul RCMP along with the RCMP ERT team executed search warrants on two houses in Saddle Lake Cree Nation, according to an RCMP press release.

Over $7,000 was seized by police, along with drugs and three loaded firearms. Two females and three males were arrested inside the houses and charges are pending against all five people as the investigation continues.

St. Paul RCMP and emergency crews responded to a single vehicle rollover on Hwy 881, five kilometers north of St. Paul on April 24. The driver of the vehicle, a semi truck carrying potable water, lost control and rolled, causing a portion of the highway to be closed for several hours.

The tank detached from the truck and rolled into a ditch, causing water to spill, according to an RCMP press release.

The St. Paul Fire Department responded to the accident and helped EMS in freeing the driver from the truck.

“The driver was heavily injured,” says St. Paul Fire Chief Trevor Kotowich. “We stayed on scene until after 7 p.m. cleaning up debris from the accident.”

By about 5 p.m. authorities were able to open the highway to single lane traffic, Kotowich explains. The fire department also played a role in managing traffic around the scene of the accident.

Authorities needed to clear the road of debris enough to let traffic pass. Cleanup went on while the highway was opened to north and southbound traffic.

According to the RCMP release, the male driver was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries, and “it is believed that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.” Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
