Junior high athletes run, jump and throw at SPAA championship event

The SPAA championship event marks the end of the track and field season for junior high athletes in the St. Paul region.

ST. PAUL - It was a race to finish between two of the St. Paul area's largest junior high schools, but after the points were tallied, Racette Jr. High School would come away with the most points overall following this year's St. Paul Athletics Association (SPAA) track and field championship.

Young athletes from Grade 7 to 9 gathered at the track at St. Paul Regional High School on June 3 to take part in this year's SPAA track meet. 

Racette Jr. High had a total of 1,747 points in the combined scores, while Glen Avon School was close behind with 1,737.5 points. Coming in third was FG Miller Jr/Sr High School from Elk Point with 849.5 points.

On the girls' side, Glen Avon School came in first, with 874 point, and Racette came in second with 849 points.

On the boys' side, the results were flipped, with Racette earning 898 points and Glen Avon earning 863.5 points.

The championship event marks the end of the track and field season for junior high athletes.
