ST. PAUL - The Mannawanis Native Friendship Centre celebrated culture, community, and the ongoing work of reconciliation on June 20 as part of National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Desiree McCarthy, gender-based violence facilitator at the centre and organizer of the event, said part of the celebration of culture and community is bringing people together, Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike.

"Unifying our community is one of the main goals we have."

McCarthy added, “Our friendship centre isn’t just for Indigenous people. . . We’re really trying to emphasize that this year, that our centre and our programs are for everybody. They are rooted in cultural teachings, but those teachings are also open to everybody."
