Local RCMP is again reminding motorists to use caution as wintery conditions continue to affect the roadways.
“People need to slow down,” says Cst. Tammy Protasiwich, a few days before Christmas. She added that if people are worried about road conditions and aren’t confident driving on the roads, “they should probably stay home.”
She added that motorists need to sweep as much snow as possible off of their vehicles before travelling and having a license plate that is obstructed by the snow is illegal.
Another thing Protasiwich notes is that many people driving vehicles with 4x4 aren’t as cautious as they should be.
“If you’re in 4x4, it doesn’t mean you’re going to stop,” she says, adding, motorists sometimes have a false sense of security when driving in 4x4.
“Just take your time.”
A woman died following a single vehicle rollover on Dec. 21 that happened near the St. Paul Airport, on Highway 29 near Range Road 100.
St. Paul RCMP, EMS and fire rescue responded to a call in the evening. A single vehicle had rolled into the ditch and one person was trapped inside, according to a RCMP press release. Emergency crews tried to free the trapped woman but she was pronounced deceased on scene.
Three other occupants from the vehicle were not injured in the accident. The woman was identified as a resident of Goodfish Lake. Alcohol was not a contributing factor, and the collision is still under investigation, says the release.
St. Paul RCMP and the Police Dog Services Unit executed a search warrant on Dec. 20 at a rural residence in the County of Smoky Lake, just west of Whitefish (Goodfish) Lake First Nation.
Four people were arrested as a result of the search warrant, says a RCMP press release and two females were charged with possession of a controlled substance. All four will appear in St. Paul court in the New Year.
