A second St. Paul Education Regional Division (SPERD) trustee has resigned. On Wednesday afternoon, Deb Pederson, who has been with the board for 15 years, officially resigned from her position.

Pederson was the longest serving member of the current SPERD board. She was first elected in 2004 and was serving in her fifth term.

Speaking to the Journal after the meeting, Pederson said an opportunity came up for her and her daughter to make a move to Nashville. Her daughter currently works in the  music industry, and travels between Myrnam and Nashville regularly.

All the pieces fell into place, and on Sunday, Pederson will be heading south.

"You've worn all hats," said SPERD chair Heather Starosielski during Wednesday's board meeting.

In March, former SPERD trustee Rhonda Lafrance resigned from her position.

With one vacancy on the board, the school division was not required to hold a byelection. With two vacancies now open, a byelection will be required, although school boards are not bound by as strict of a timeline as municipalities are.

A motion to accept Pederson's resignation was carried on Wednesday afternoon. A motion to table a decision regarding the timeline for a byelection until the June meeting was also carried.
