ST. PAUL - On May 30, the St. Paul 4-H Multi-Club's Beef Project had a very successful Achievement Day at the Ag Corral in St. Paul.
Doors opened at 8 a.m for members to prepare and wash their steers, followed by the show that started at 11 a.m. The day began with members judging four steers in the ring.
Judging results - Josée Lavoie won first and Arley Lavoie was in second place for juniors. Kurt Yaremko earned first place and Emma Lavoie got second place for intermediates. For seniors, first place went to Ethan Yaremko and Tyson Trefenanko was in second.
Following judging there was a pizza lunch with the help of a generous donation from Location Cats. After lunch, members began conformation with classes formed by weight. First class was the lighter steers with Brielle Lavoie and Josée Lavoie that were chosen to move on to the Parade of Champions. Second class of conformation were the heavier steers with Mercedes Trefenanko and Kurt Yaremko who moved on to the Parade of Champions.
Following conformation we had grooming and showmanship.
Grooming results were Arley Lavoie in first place and Rosalena Dmetruik in second for juniors. Intermediate was Kurt Yaremko in first and Payslee Trefenanko in second place. For seniors, Ethan Yaremko was in first place and Mercedes Trefenanko in second.
Results for Showmanship - Brody Trefenanko earned first and Josée Lavoie earned second for juniors. Intermediate had Kurt Yaremko in first and Emma Lavoie in second; and Mercedes Trefenanko in first and Ethan Yaremko in second place for seniors.
The highest daily Rate of Gain went to Kale Lavoie and members finished off the day with the Parade of Champions with Brielle Lavoie, Josée Lavoie, Kurt Yaremko and Mercedes Trefenanko. Judge Tell Calvert had a hard time picking, but his choice of Grand Champion went to Mercedes Trefenanko and Reserve went to Kurt Yaremko.
