The library's mini-art show was created to give people a unique opportunity to explore art in different forms through mini-canvasses. Last year, about 45 people participated.

ST. PAUL – The St. Paul Municipal Library’s third annual mini-canvas art show is looking to be more popular than ever, with all 75 spots for artist registrations already filled up. This is nearly double last year’s turnout.

“It’s amazing,” said Monique Poulin, program coordinator at the library, expressing excitement about the April showcase. “We can’t make it any bigger because, well, where would we display the art?”

The annual event invites community members of all ages to create artwork on small canvases, using a variety of materials from paint to clay to felt markers.

While the canvas used will be mini, the event's central idea of providing opportunity for both seasoned and first-time artists to express themselves in forms of their choosing, remains a priority.

She invites the community to come out to the show’s grand opening on April 8 and admire the collection of mini-artwork, supporting local talent.

"But the [artwork] will be displayed for most of the month of April," she said. There will also be interactive booklets placed next to the pieces so visitors can leave comments and share their thoughts about the art.

Beyond the art show, Poulin also invites members of the community to participate in some of the library’s ongoing and upcoming community events, including its Social Hub initiative every Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Everyone is invited, she said. “It’s just a way for people in the community to meet other people in a nice, safe environment,” especially now with the weather warming up.

The library is also teaming up with Portage College for a fun round of “Legal Bingo."

It was originally supposed to take place on Jan. 28 but was postponed.

“It is going on again on April 1,” said Poulin, explaining the event is about teaching people about the legal system in a fun way.
