ST. PAUL – The trout pond located east of the Lions Soccer Fields at the Iron Horse Campground staging area was restocked in mid-May and has been attracting fishing enthusiasts since that time.
“The Trout Pond has been replenished with water from the soccer dugout and was restocked two weeks ago with 400 brown trout, 1,200 rainbow trout, and 300 tiger trout," reads Town of St. Paul Director of Parks and Recreation Harvey Smyl’s Department Report, presented during the May 26 Town of St. Paul council meeting.
The Cold Lake Fish Hatchery provided the fish, while the Town of St. Paul manages the pond. The St. Paul Fish and Game Association also helps with coordinating the stocking of the pond.
Smyl said the pond has been regularly well attended since it was restocked two weeks ago.
"It's a fantastic thing," he said. "You see families out there and it's just a solid thing for our community."
While fishing at the pond is free, the public is reminded to follow Alberta's fishing regulations and remain respectful to the pond and the environment.
To fish at the pond, individuals 17 years old and older require a fishing license. A license is not necessary for those 16 years old and under, or people 65 years old and over.
