A single vehicle rollover north on Highway 881 took place in the early morning hours of Oct. 6, resulting in the transport of a 27-year-old man from Ashmont to Edmonton for treatment of critical injuries.

According to Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority Chief Brian McEvoy, the rollover took place on Highway 881, south of Highway 630.

“One person was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to St. Paul,” he said, adding ambulance services from Bonnyville and Elk Point responded to the scene. STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to St. Paul before 7 a.m. to transport the injured person to Edmonton.

Bonnyville RCMP responded to the single vehicle collision at about 5:30 a.m., according to a RCMP media release.

Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle crossed the centre line and drove into the ditch on the opposite side of the road.

“The vehicle then struck an approach where it became airborne for a few hundred feet before tumbling end over end. During this time the driver was ejected from the vehicle into the nearby treed area,” according to the media release.

RCMP believe alcohol may have been involved.
