After running about a week behind schedule this winter, construction of the Wellness Centre is back on track and the anticipated completion date of Sept. 1 remains in place, according to the Town of St. Paul.

The slab has been poured and construction has started on the internal walls, said Town of St. Paul CAO Ron Boisvert, last week.

“If it keeps on at this pace, they might be ahead of schedule,” he added. The clinic side of the building, which will be used by local doctors, might even be ready before Sept. 1.

Now that the building is enclosed, the weather won’t play a factor, and the only things that could possibly affect construction timelines are the supply of materials or a tradesperson being delayed, said Boisvert.

The project, which is funded by the Town of St. Paul, the County of St. Paul and the provincial government, still has a shortfall of $1.8 million.

“We were having discussions with the province, but everything is on hold now that the election has been called,” said Boisvert of the shortfall.

There are also talks taking place with potential tenants for the other side of the building, which consists of about 14,000 square feet of the 25,000 square foot building. Boisvert said they are trying to keep all services in the building health-related.

The building is located east of Canadian Tire on the east end of town. A future drug store is also expected to be built north of the Wellness Centre, but negotiations are ongoing, said Boisvert.
