LAC LA BICHE - There's going to be some congestion on the streets around Lac La Biche's W. J. Cadzow Hospital in the coming weeks as crews work to upgrade and repair the property around the 40-year-old building.
The project, split into five phases, began on May 25 and is expected to continue until mid August.
During the project, all hospital services will remain open, says Alberta Health Services spokesperson Logan Clow.
"The healthcare centre, including the emergency department and main entrance, will remain open and accessible to the public throughout construction," noted Clow.
With the staff parking lot on the south side of the building included in the opening phase of the project, vehicles have lined the adjacent streets around the hospital.
Watch for signs
Extra parking for staff and patients can also be found at the Portage College property west of the hospital. Signs and workers will be on site to direct traffic and visitors around the area.
"Traffic control personnel will be on-site during the day to direct traffic to the most appropriate entrance," said Clow. "Signage will also be in place to guide traffic and make the public aware of these temporary changes."
While the upgrades are mainly focused on the aging parking areas, the project will also upgrade walkways and crosswalks at the healthcare centre property.
"The project will also include fresh crosswalk and line painting, new concrete curbing, sidewalks and new staff entrance stairs," said Clow, adding that AHS thanks the community, the college and hospital staff for their understanding.
